Bridge Victoria

The Thwaites Mixed Pairs Championship is the major Mixed Pairs event on the calendar.

This year’s event will be run on a weekend - Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August 2026 at the Victorian Bridge Centre.

This a wonderful opportunity to participate in a major state event which uses a very familiar format … matchpoints … just like all club Duplicates.

This is event is only open to members of Victorian Clubs

Dr John and Marjorie Thwaites were great Victorian players from the earliest days of contract bridge. John won the Interstate Open teams twice. Marjorie won the Women’s Interstate an extraordinary 12 times in a representative career spanning 1934-1968

Substitutes

Players are reminded of their obligation under the Bridge VictoriaTournament Regulations (clause 4 page 6) (link here) to notify the  Match & Tournament Committee MTC@bridgevictoria.au  of the need to use a substitute. This notification should be made as soon as you are aware of the need for a substitute. This policy has often been ignored and will now be strictly enforced.  Failure to notify will automatically incur a scoring penalty and if the substitution is deemed unsuitable it may result in disqualification.

You are also required to find a substitute of a similar ability.  Substitutes deemed overweight will automatically receive penalties as prescribed under the Regulations.
