GENERAL INFORMATION

INTRODUCTION DIRECTORS COURSE

 

Bridge Victoria is pleased to announce a director’s course for new and inexperienced directors.

The course will be held on Saturday 12th April 2025.

It will run concurrently as an in-person and online session.

The in-person component will be at the Waverley Bridge Club

The online component will use Microsoft ‘Teams’ and you will be able to view the presentation as it is being presented at the Waverley Bridge Club.

However, if you wish to use the online facility, you will need to

a.     Download ‘Microsoft ‘Teams’ on your computer

b.    Receive from the organisers the links for each hour of the course on the 12th April throughout the day

The presenter is LEIGH GOLD.

Besides being an excellent director, Leigh is a very accomplished bridge player who has played for Victoria on multiple occasions. He has also successfully presented similar courses to various groups in the past.

It will be starting at 10am and finish by 3pm.

For the face-to-face attendees, bring your own lunch but snacks are provided.

The cost is $15.00.

This price includes an essential book for inexperienced directors titled

Director is Called

This book is written by Australia’s own John McIlrath who is a very experienced director with an easy to read and understand writing style. The book retails for $14.95. Therefore, the course is in essence free for participants.

The face-to-face attendees will receive the book on the day of the course.

The online participants will need to supply shipping details for the book to be sent to them (it may arrive after the 12th April).

The delivery will use a Microsoft Powerpoint format.

This session on the 12th April is the first of 2 components to qualify people to become club directors.

A.    This component we will be focusing on Laws 1 & Movements 1.

The topics will include


1. Opening lead out of turn

2.Lead out of turn

3. Revoke

4. Pass & Bid out of rotation

5. Insufficient Bids

6. Penalty Cards

7. Table movements for duplicates.

8. Role of the director

9. Basic use of Bridgemates.

 

B.    The second component will be held later this year – the Accreditation Exam (for those wishing to take the exam).

Prior to the 3rd session, all participants will need to have the 6 shadowing sessions signed off, before attempting the exam.
