Bridge Victoria

The State Teams Championship held over 6 weeks at the Victorian Bridge Centre from September 4th to October 16th (no play on October 2nd)

The  1st Pennant was held in 1934, organised by the Victorian Bridge Association. Australia’s leading pair Champion-Goldberg won the first 3 Pennants playing the Pachabo system. 48 teams entered that inaugural Pennant – 16 in the A division (with the winner to become the Victorian team for the Interstate championship), 24 in the B division, and 18 in the ladies section. The format was a double round-robin qualifying to semi-finals. The “home and away” borrowed its scoring from football (4-2-0 Victory Points and percentage of points for vs against to break ties)!

 Substitutes

Players are reminded of their obligation under the Bridge VictoriaTournament Regulations (clause 4 page 6) (link here) to notify the  Match & Tournament Committee MTC@bridgevictoria.au  of the need to use a substitute. This notification should be made as soon as you are aware of the need for a substitute. This policy has often been ignored and will now be strictly enforced.  Failure to notify will automatically incur a scoring penalty and if the substitution is deemed unsuitable it may result in disqualification.

You are also required to find a substitute of a similar ability.  Substitutes deemed overweight will automatically receive penalties as prescribed under the Regulations.
